Elegbeleye hails IGP on sports awards

The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegbeleye, has hailed the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar for honouring both serving and retired police officers who served the country meritoriously through sports.
The IGP honoured 137 serving and retired officers at the maiden edition of the Police Sports Awards ceremony held at the Police Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja on Friday.
A very happy NSC top officer was forthright in praising the IGP for rewarding the officers.
He said, “I am very happy because it was an example of Police showing appreciation to sportsmen and women in the force who had won laurels for Nigeria and made the country proud in the past.
“I am particularly happy about the recognition given late Sunday Bada. Even though he has passed on, they still recognised him for his great contributions.
“I am also happy for Chioma Ajunwa who won gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. It shows that if you do well anywhere you are and whatever department of agency and institution of government you belong to, your contribution to sports will never go unnoticed.
“I am happy about this awards the police have started today (Friday) and hope they will sustain it because it will go a long way to motivate others to do more. I congratulate the IGP for taking this initiative of recognising officers of the force in sports.”
